US dollar continues to trade around Y80 and maintains gains against the euro after a report on weekly US jobless claims a touch higher than forecasts. Claims were 387,000 last week, just above the 385,000 economists had forecast. Claims were down 2,000 from a revised (up 3,000) 389,000 a week earlier. The data show that while the US economy isn't terribly strong, it still is likely creating a modest amount of jobs and is growing. USD at Y80.00 from Y79.46 late Wednesday, according to EBS via CQG. USD traded as high as Y80.09 in the early moments of trading in the US, its highest level in a month. Euro at $1.2673 from $1.2708 late Wednesday.
