The ECRI weekly leading index continues to improve, but the business cycle firm is still worried about a US recession. The WLI growth rate for the week of Sept 14 strengthened to 2.7% from 1.9% in the previous week. The index itself increased to 125.4 from 124.7. On its Web site in mid-September, ECRI said, "we can tell you that the Weekly Leading Index is not pointing to recovery and, more importantly, this is also the message from our full array of leading indexes." Growth in the August ECRI index improved to 0.5% from -1.3% in July.
