NY Fed's Dudley Makes Case for Fed Easing

Speaking to a group in New Jersey, New York Fed boss William Dudley is making the case for the new stimulus the central bank provided last week. "The decision to ease policy further is fully consistent" with the central bank's legal mandate to promote maximum sustainable employment while maintaining price stability, Dudley says. "In the absence of further monetary easing, I concluded that growth would remain too subdued over the next several years to make big inroads into the spare capacity that remains from the Great Recession," the official says.
