As Overseas Stocks Slide, US Remains Steady

While a flight-to-safety trade has been occurring in Europe today--stocks there are notably weaker and the euro is below $1.28 for the 1st time in nearly 2 months--US equity futures haven't been taking part. Perhaps that's because the market had its own swoon on Friday. But there's also plenty coming near-term on the global stage. Besides the US elections, there's central-bank meetings in locales like the EU and Australia and the ongoing troika review of Greece ahead of next Monday's gathering of euro-zone finance chiefs. S&P 500 futures are flat, as are Nymex oil futures, while gold edges higher and the 10-year Treasury yield falls to 1.69%.
