ECB Bonnici Throws Cold Water on Greek Debt Haircut

ECB Bonnici in a WSJ interview throws cold water on taking haircut on Greek debt, calling it forbidden by the central bank's treaty. There is disagreement among EU leaders about what to do with Greek debt ahead a key meeting of officials Tuesday to discuss the country's next round of aid. There is an increasing call for public bondholders to take a haircut on their Greek holdings. Bonnici also says Spain and the EU should clarify conditions for aid. The back-and-forth about whether and when Spain might request a bailout has helped hold the euro hostage as it remains a lingering uncertainty for traders. EUR/USD at 1.2703, down about 0.6% on day, according to EBS via CQG.
