The first steps are always the most difficult perhaps. Especially when you have to familiarize themselves fully in a new operating system and at the same experience with the previously used system should be thrown overboard. Exactly the same for me now in my ITRY 3.0 , in which I am using Windows 8 and three corresponding equipment set apart. Android may I present at least not for work or private use (unless of course it is about an app or device test).
Windows Phone 8: Settings
The first thing that will do the most likely buyer of a new smartphone, this is according to their own needs to set up. And of course, I have done just that. What opportunities for Windows Phone 8 features here, I want to show you now like.
Heart of any smartphone is the setting menu. With Windows Phone 8 (WP 8) is this - much like Apple's iOS - designed quite intuitive and can be explained largely by itself, but it is also different. Therefore I would like to first discuss the main points briefly.
Windows Phone 8: Ringtones & Sounds
As the title already explained very telling, you'll find everything Audible, which can be assigned and adapt. Thus, in this menu item can also be selected in addition to the ringtones that the phone when a call is ringing and / or to vibrate only. Nokia has been pretty flat out and really "hip" ringtones such as a dubstep version of the classic Nokia Tunes to make. Whether one (on his phone) really needs is another matter that can make happiness so to each his own.
New in Windows 8 is that you as a user now (finally) also has the opportunity to completely own sounds, melodies or songs as a ringtone set. These Windows are 8 different options to choose from, which this one is the simplest:
Smartphone to the PC, then click on Desktop and in the file explorer (left column), click Computer
Under Portable choose their own smartphone, then only the folder phone (or phone ) and then the folder ringtones (or Ringtones open)
In this folder then the corresponding Musik-/Klangdatei be copied, the want her to use as ringtone.
In the settings menu of your smartphone then the menu Graphics & Sounds Open after her there now opens the Ringtone menu appears there at the top of the point Custom , among your ringtone should appear. Done.
Unfortunately in WP 8 has not been possible to establish with the help of this simple method also own sounds for notifications (Sofortnachchrichten, voice mail messages and e-mails). I personally find a bit unfortunate, but I will try during the ITRY 3.0 to make another method that could act allows me.
Windows Phone 8: Design and tiles
Under design to hide the customization options of the essential features of Windows 8: the tiles . Interestingly, the menu is here but then designed very minimalist and so can be set exactly two things: the background (light or dark) and the accent color, so the color of the tiles, links, etc. In total, here 20 colors to choose from, at least a degree of personalization allow. That's more than iOS, but much less than Android (an important point for me, because I love the design of my smartphone herumzutüfteln and icons, widgets, fonts, etc. all the way to adapt to my needs. Whoever does not, however, needs in Windows 8 certainly find a color in combination with a light or dark background that pleases him /) her.
A further adjustment option can be found directly in the user interface of WP 8 . So you can the tiles in two and sometimes three different sizes to display and arrange the apps on your desktop so completely to your liking. For this you have to do the following:
To add a new app to the home screen in the app menu scrolls (a wipe from right). With a long click on an app to open a drop-down menu from which you can select among other things, whether the app is displayed on the home page.

Windows Phone 8: E-mail Accounts
All services from Microsoft to use easily, you have to you as it should be otherwise, create a Microsoft account. Should you already have one (for example, because its a Xbox 360 has already been there and have established one, at least that was the case with me), you can and should take this course. Windows Phone 8: Display & Touchscreen
Frankly, I am disappointed with this menu a bit, because after this point lies only a single function, with which you can only adjust the touch sensitivity of the screen. Although Nokia has a really fantastic feature built into the Lumia 920, because thanks to the high sensitivity to touch can the smartphone even easily operated with gloves. But I think it's really inconvenient that one, etc. for the keyboard when writing SMS, mails no haptic feedback can be set (only the three software button vibrate very slightly). The only confirmation that you get when you type on the keyboard is so visual and optionally also an acoustic nature.
I have to get used to it once, I said from my Android devices otherwise know (except for the Nexus 7, this lack of haptic feedback when I 've complained too ), but I'm assuming that because I am in the coming weeks 'll get used. Also protects the battery.
Conclusion to the customization options
So at least the fundamental optical and acoustic Windows Phone 8 would be adjusted. The settings here are indeed rather limited, but also kept fairly clear. Especially for beginners which is very good, as many of the features can be explained as described by yourself and you do not like the like is the case now and then for Android and associated launchers, slain by an almost unmanageable number of features and settings. You have to like it, I personally like this, as already mentioned, very good at Android.
