The USD/CNY is likely to gain slightly following the dollar's strength overnight Thursday. The pair ended at 6.2329 late Thursday, lower than Wednesday's close of 6.2518. However, "given that the dollar was relatively stable overnight Thursday, the central bank could fix the dollar-yuan pair slightly lower, letting the yuan trend higher," says one Shanghai based trader who predicts a fixing of 6.2870. The USD/CNY central parity was set at 6.2887 Thursday morning.
