Late-afternoon hopes that European leaders will focus on measures to spur growth in the region, and perhaps soften the austerity drive there, helped lift the euro to a fresh session high against the dollar, as did the rise in US equities. The euro traded as high as $1.2825 against the greenback, but most recently eased to $1.2808.
