BMO Capital Markets Chief Economist Sherry Cooper announces she's stepping down, effective Jan 30, after a 30-year career at the financial institution. "Sherry has built a reputation throughout North America for her straight-forward, engaging style. She brings clarity to the complexity of global economics and finance -- insights that have been invaluable to BMO and its clients," says BMO CEO Bill Downe in a statement. Cooper is one of the few female chief economists in the Canadian banking and investment dealer community. She counts former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker as a mentor, as her career began at the Fed. She received in 2010 the Lawrence R. Klein Award for economic forecasting.
